April K. Wakefield Pagels, M.D. joined North Sound Family Medicine on July, 2005 to complete her final month of residency training under the preceptorship of North Sound’s family practice physicians.    After completion of the final month of residency, she began her practice as an associate of Family Care Network at North Sound Family Medicine.  In addition to providing healthcare for patients from newborns to adults, Dr. Pagels will also provide obstetric care.   She has particular interest in the needs of nursing mothers and infants.

Dr. Pagels, born and raised in Kansas, completed her undergraduate studies at University of Kansas, Lawrence and graduated from the University of Kansas Medical School in 2002.  She completed the Family Medicine Residency Program at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, Washington from 2002 to June 2005 and received her Washington State Physician License in July 2004.  She was Board Certified in 2005.  During her training, Dr. Pagels was active in medical school curriculum development, and clinical work with uninsured patients.  She has taught biology for multiple programs including Health Careers Pathways Program and the University of Kansas.   Her experience has also included bilingual health education and patient care in Spanish speaking communities.  She fluently speaks and writes Spanish.

Dr Pagels is excited to be practicing medicine in the Bellingham/Whatcom County community.   Her parents have lived here since the mid-nineties, and she had visited the community often.    Dr. Pagels is married and has 2 small children.
